Devon HYB Calf Show

DEVON HYB HELD their Calf Show once again at Victoria Dairy Farm by kind invitation of Douglas and Vera Daymond. Prior to the show, a barbeque was provided by David and Rose Grandfield, with help from Vera, Brenda Coles and Doreen Westaway. Special thanks to Martin Coles of Mole Valley Farmers for their support and Mike Huskins and David Hawkins of Semex for their help and continuing support for the youngsters.

The handler classes were keenly contested and judge Brian Miller (Moorshard) had no easy task in selecting his class leaders. The junior class was won by Sophie Morgan with Alfie Seggons in second. A strong class of intermediates was headed by Alice Daymond, who just got the better of Rosie Bennett in second. The senior showman class was almost too close to call, however the Judge just gave the advantage to Nicky Bishop over Emma Greenslade. In the mature class, Lucinda Morgan was an easy winner once again. As his Champion, Judge Miller singled out his two senior showgirls for Champion and Reserve with Alice Daymond being given the Honourable Mention.

In the calf classes there were wins for Lucinda Morgan, who won both the summer yearlings with a Shottle daughter and the spring calf class with a Goldwyn daughter. The winter class was won by our host Douglas Daymond with a Bambam daughter, also the sire of the winning autumn born calf for Colin and Nicky Bishop. The same owners also won the senior yearling class with another daughter of Shottle, but it was the winning late summer yearling Smiddiehill Finalcut Erle that carried of the championship for Daystar Holsteins, the judge giving her the advantage in style, dairyness and size over the Shottle daughter Treetop S Jasmine from Lucinda Morgan, this powerful heifer just getting the better of Lucinda's Goldwyn daughter Woolford G Princess 4 named as Honourable Mention.
