North East All Breeds Calf Show

THE 6TH NORTH EAST ALL BREEDS DAIRY CALF SHOW

The 6th North East All Breeds Dairy Calf Show was held on Bank Holiday Monday. A very well supported and keenly fought show saw nearly 30 handlers and almost 100 calves compete for the top honours.

The interbreed champion handler was Stephen Jordan, with his Dairy Shorthorn calf from GG Baynes & sons. Reserve interbreed champion handler was Neil Eastham, who won the Holstein handling competition. The champion Ayrshire handler was Kathryn Alderson. James Danforth was a worthy Jersey champion handler despite giving away more than a handful of years to the other competitors.

A small, but high quality entry of Ayrshire calves saw Fourth Milestone Hortense 5th win the champion calf title. Her owner Mr James Waterhouse, who is the show chairman, also bred the sire of Hortense 5th – Fourth Milestone Robbie.

The largest number of calves entered competed in the Holstein classes. The eventual winner was Tristar Dolman Margot, who won the youngest calf class for her owner Neil Eastham, who was exhibiting at the show for the first time.

The Champion Jersey calf also came from the youngest class – Priestcar Big Show Ivory, exhibited by Rebecca Jarvis. Rebecca had a very successful day also taking the reserve champion calf with Priestcar Flight Bambi and winning 3 of the 5 Jersey classes.

Richard Baynes exhibited the champion Shorthorn calf – Marleycote Petal 109 from the herd of GG Baynes and son from Hexham.

The overall champion exhibitor was IRG Collins and Partners from Dewsbury who won most points with their Shorthorn calves.

The final competition of the day saw judge Mr Blaise Tomlinson tap out the Interbreed Champion Calf as Holstein Tristar Dolman Margot, which rounded off a very successful day for her owner and breeder Neil Eastham.
