Devon Premier Pedigree Herd Competition

The 2009 Devon Holstein Club’s Herd competition welcomed Judge Mr Richard Bown of the renowned “Richaven” herd from Worcester.  A strong entry this year, with some fourteen herds being visited throughout Devon, being four more herds than last year. 

 

Congratulations to everyone who entered this competition, and in particular to Mr Dennis Smith of Pilehayes, Woodbury Salterton, Exeter, whose outstanding “Oakroyal” herd has been chosen to represent Devon in the National Premier Pedigree Herd Competition 2009.

 

The results for the small herds are as follows: Inspection; 1st Mr Dennis Smith of “Oakroyal” Herd, 2nd Mr Dave Chave of “Peacehay” Herd which was reversed for the Inspection & Production class: Mr Dennis Smith 1st in Inspection & Genetic Merit, whose “Peacehay Fairy 26” was awarded the best exhibitor bred cow.

 

Mr Jerry Palmer of “Sherdon” herd took all the silverware in the large herd competition receiving 1st in the Inspection class, Inspection & Production class & Inspection & Genetic Merit class, his heifer “Sherdon Hanno Clara 58” was awarded the best exhibitor bred heifer. Mr Kevin Mott of “Janeck” herd received 2nd in the Inspection class and Mr Kenny Grabham of “Kenham” herd received 2nd in the Inspection & Production class.
