Saturday 7th May dawned bright and sunny but the heavens soon opened. This didn’t deter the members of Holstein Isle of Man who turned out to support their Annual Dairy Show. Due to animal movement restrictions the venue had to be stock free for 28 days either side of the show. With the generous co operation of Dave, Jill and Dan Shacklock of Oatlands Farm, Santon, we took advantage of a new venue with a large shed which lent itself perfectly to our needs.

With the dairy industry declining rapidly exhibitors get less every year, however, those who did turn out brought excellent stock to parade before judge Andrew Smith from Nantwich, Cheshire. This young man has a wealth of experience. He started showing at 5 years old, had his own champion calf at the All Britain Calf show in 1998, won handling classes at the same show five times and been honourable mention over all twice. He also won National Stockjudging at the Royal Show twice with the best set of reasons. He has worked with Ed Seaton's Styche herd since the age of 12, spent two years working as a cattle fitter travelling around shows and sales with his current job as a Progeny Evaluator for Cogent Breeding and he’s only 23.
