South East Club HYB report

South Eastern club has had a very busy year so far, gearing up towards our hosting the National Rally in 2012.

We held two judging practice evenings by kind permission of Alan Smith – Valjen Holsteins and at Ridley Court Farm by kind permission of Maggie Howie and family. The club judging evening proper was hosted by Tim & Marion Gue at their Huddlestone Farm near Steyning home to their marvellous herd of Huddlestone Holsteins, Catherine Elmes was our master judge for the evening, we are very grateful to all the hosts and their staff for their hospitality and work that these evenings involve.

We sent a team to the judging competition in July and our team members were very successful, namely Beth Mellersh who was placed 2nd in the Junior competition and Kate Bowsher who was placed 3rd in the Senior competition.

The previous evening to this competition the club held a very successful fund raising event at Pitchfont Farm, home to the dispersed Limpsfield herd by kind permission of D. Innes.  A fun games evening ensued with old and young members playing the like of rounders, ‘bat and trap’ and stool ball.  A sumptuous supper was then enjoyed by all – catering organised by Merrie Newham and Maggie Howie and band of helpers.

A group of our young members enjoyed a great weekend at Richard and Dawn Bowns farm, home to Richaven Holsteins.  Richard shared his expertise with the youngsters, giving them chance to have ‘hands on’ experience of washing and clipping animals for preparation at showing competitions under his expert guidance. We were all thoroughly spoilt with a lovely lunchtime barbeque on Sunday in the shadow of the beautiful Malvern hills before we departed home, the youngsters took a lot of ideas away with them and we are extremely grateful to Richard and Dawn their family and staff.

We have just held our Calf competition at our local agricultural show – Edenbridge and Oxted, the handlers competiton being judged by Mark Knutsford and we were honoured to have Bernard Liddle judging the calves, we hope that he and Marney enjoyed their trip to the South East corner.

We are all getting excited at the prospect of hosting next years rally and hope that as many clubs as possible will make the journey to the South East.
