Suffolk update

The committee members of Suffolk Holstein Club have been busy organising the programme for the next few months and early indications show that we have a busy schedule to stick to!

Looking back to the last few months, the Club has held two successful social evenings to make sure that over the winter months, members get the chance to get together and talk about something other than cows. The quiz night was held again in the Clubhouse of Harleston Young Farmers and almost 40 members tested their brain-power with a quiz which proved to be a lot harder than expected! Thanks must go to our quiz master for the evening, local vet, David Stockton, of Chapelfield Vets who did an excellent job of keeping the evening running smoothly. Following after that, club secretary, Lindsay Burroughs, organised an evening of greyhound racing at Great Yarmouth which went down very well with some earning a little profit and others losing a lot!

As always, the club is keen to support our HYB members so to get everyone thinking about the showing season coming up and Holstein UK competitions, we are holding a meal at Flixton Buck on Saturday 3rd March at 7.30pm. Please contact Margaret Vale on 01502 677240. A training day is also planned prior to the HYB rally to ensure that our HYB members can fly the Suffolk flag with pride and to help some of the younger members gain new skills in and out of the show ring.

Our annual dinner will be held on Friday 20th April at the Waveney House Hotel and tickets for this three-course meal will be on sale soon. The evening also celebrate the winners of the herd competition for 2011 which was judged by Phil Sharman. Lindsay Burroughs will be taking bookings over the next few weeks, so if you would like to attend, please get in touch with her on 07713 248666.

Our AGM will be held on Tuesday 1st May at Harleston YFC clubhouse starting at 7.30pm and there will be more information on this meeting to follow.

Our stockjudging evening this year will be held at the Reydon herd with kind permission from the Hall family and will be an excellent night for all which starts at 7.30pm.

A farm visit is also planned for July as well as our herd competition being judged in early July by Peter Prior.

As you can see, we have lots of things coming up so if you would like to come along, please feel free to do so. For more information on Suffolk Holstein Club, please contact Club Chairman, Helen Reeve, on 01986 788106 or hmreeve@msn.com
