Derbyshire Winter Herd Competition Results

The first event of the year on the Derbyshire calendar was a talk by Eric Easom from Broomhouse on the development of the anaerobic digester on his farm at Alfreton. It was an enlightening talk about the challenges and ultimate achievement of the project which had been ongoing for several years.

In late March the Club held it’s AGM with Eric Easom elected to the Chairman’s post, with Andrew Bunting from Alsopdale proposed as vice-Chairman. Harrison Mellor from the Braemarhouse herd is a new member to the committee next year. The evening also included a talk by Richard Pilkington of Aintree Holsteins. In a slick and very interesting presentation he talked about several developments, adaptions and changes that have taken place, including the move to zero grazing and A2A2 milk. He also spoke about several of the premier cow families in the herd including the Friesian purchases.

The Winter Herd Competition was judged by Janet Law from the Overseal herd. Entries were strong and the results are listed below.
