Central Counties October Report

Central Counties members have had a very busy summer.  The calf show was held in September courtesy of Rugby Marts and judged by Ben Yates. Showmanship winners were Holy Robison, Laura Barrett, Emily Barrett and Rebecca Channing.  The calves were Feb. Blydale Miss Doorman, Dec Blydale El Niro Missy, Oct Crystalclear Sammy Pledge, August Blydale Quality Lynn ET and June Crystalclear Daryl Elsie ET.

The small team of helpers went off to Malvern determined to put on a good show and what a show they had. The young members really worked well together putting up the stand and looking after the calves and transport was supplied by Will Ives also a young member his lorry is fantastic, what a lorry to travel in to any show.

Members were placed well in their showmanship classes but the climax was Becky Channing winning the senior showmanship and overall championship in her final year as a young member. Becky has worked really hard for her success spending time training and preparing her handling calf and has been an inspiration to all our young members. WELL DONE BECKY.  In the calf classes we again had several places with Becky leading Blydale Holsteins calf to win the August class with   Blydale  Quality Lynn ET. We all held our breath when it came to the championship to see if Becky could do the double.  The judge really praised the calf in the championship line up saying how long and correct she was, we were thinking could this happen, he walked down to her but then  turned and  knocked the  champion out and then Blydale Quality Lynn ET for reserve champion.  Not quite there, but a fantastic result for Central Counties and Sam Wake and family.

Just before the championship we had had the results of the overall team competition. The lst  team was announced and a team of ten plus stepped forward to receive their reward.  Then 2nd place was announced and our team of three  Emily and Laura Barrett and Will Ives (Milly and Helena had to leave early and Becky was still with the Reserve Champion Calf) stepped forward to receive their 2nd prize with absolute surprise and joy but very well deserved. Roll on next year.

The club would also like to congratulate Cynthia Hall on being presented with the Holstein Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award.  Cynthia has had a lifetime involved with the Holstein cow with her own Horwood Herd which she took over at an early age after the death of her father.  She has been involved in judging shows all over the UK and one of the main stewards and National Shows and a  a lifetime member of Central Counties she has always been available to lend a hand or give advice. Well done Cynthia.
