South & Wiltshire Club Calf Show

This year’s Club Calf Show was hosted by the Newbury Show, meaning that our HYB competitors have to compete against all comers from all breeds. What had changed for 2016 was the addition of a fantastic new permanent cattle building and a change in the location of the rings, both of which changes were well received by competitors and spectators.

Our judge for the day was Shropshire’s Jane Arrell, who performed her duties with skill and precision, finding time to offer advice where appropriate and praise if merited. It was an excellent day for Claire Miles, who only brought one calf, Withamhall Pepper Robin, to the event but went home with both calf and handler championships.

Joining Claire with the red rosettes were junior handler Hannah Garrett, intermediate Lizzie Clarke and senior Sam Clarke, the latter being reserve champion ahead of his sister.

The Clarke’s also enjoyed success in the calf classes, with Westleaze Empire Neeltje in reserve spot and Westleaze Empire Corbie as Honourable Mention, whilst their Westleaze Absolute Leida Red won the February class. Other class winners came from Caroline Huins and Heather Limond with Noremead Glauco Lys 2 and Noremead Glauco Marbella 8 respectively. Full results are available online.
