Western Club News

The Western Club celebrated Christmas with buyers and sellers at Beeston Castle Auctions by once again offering mulled wine (or non-alcoholic alternative) and minced pies to everyone at the December mid-month sale.  There is always a great atmosphere at this sale, and this year was no exception – trade on the day was very buoyant.  More mulled wine anyone?

We have just completed our Top 10 Winter Herd Competition, sponsored by Semex.  The Club was very pleased to welcome our Judge, Andrew Birkle, to look at groups of 10 milking animals from 13 entrant farms over two days.  Our thanks go to Andrew for his time and expertise and we look forward to announcing the results at our Annual General Meeting on 28th March 2017 at Hunter’s Lodge.

Our next big event will be our Annual Dinner Dance at Chester Racecourse on 4th March 2017, a very popular black tie event.  The chairman and secretary promise not to show off their ballroom dancing skills as AJ & Chloe are now too busy to come in and bail them out!

Not too long afterwards we will be putting on our Spring Show at Wettenhall on 11th April 2017.  Entrants to the Spring Show are welcomed, and should get in touch with the Club by emailing us at westernholsteinclub@hotmail.co.uk or by contacting one of the Show Directors as follows:-

Jane Arrell 07967 728735

Phil Arrell 01948 710665

The Club is also now planning a trip to the Whinchat herd on 15th June for the Premier Herd Open Day –well be getting a coach together and are looking forward to visiting Andrew and family on what promises to be a fantastic day out.

We're also looking into a trip to the Irish National Ploughing Championships in September and will release more details on this to members soon.
