Derbyshire

The weather not to kind for us this year but what a great day we had traveling to Lancashire visiting the Samlea Herd in the morning we were welcomed by the Eastham family then shown around the farm pointing out many excellent cows in their herd many of them 8th & 9th calvers many Mr Minister cows lasting a long time. When choosing bulls not always looking for type but good fertility as this showed with a calving interval of 377 days. All heifers are genomic tested before they are bred at 13 months of age top 75% to sexed semen having an average first calving of 24months. What an excellent herd to visit then a short drive down the road to a lovely 3 course meal we then moved on to the Stardale herd in the afternoon. We were welcomed by the Burrows family then shown around the farm a walk in the fields to see a great show of cows where the rain didn’t dampen our spirits seeing some very deep bodied cows with great classifications and many of the Vaakje family. When heading back to the yard there was many bulls to view for sale and a lovely purpose-built calf shed just starting to fill up with new born calves.
