Central Counties Club News Dec 2017

The winter months are upon us but what a lovely few months we have had at the Central Counties club.

We started our showing preparation at the beginning of September, when we held our club training day for our young members (and old!) at Newlands farm, Bozeat. Sam Wake provided his knowledge and expertise in preparing calves for the show ring. We had a super turn out of very keen young members and it was great to welcome members from the East Midland club as well. Thanks to Haydn and Claire James for hosting and Sam for taking the time to help our young members.

On Sunday 24th September, we held our club calf show at Rugby Farmers Mart judged by Mr Simon Dowle in preparation for the ABAB in October. A beautiful sunny day combined with some fantastic calves and handlers made for a very successful day for the club. We would like to thank all of our exhibitors, handlers, supporters, sponsors, members and Simon for a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Handlers results: Champion (and winner of Mature Class) - Michelle Howie; Reserve Champion (and winner of Intermediate Class) - Laura Barrett; Honourable Mention - Emily Barrett (and winner of Senior Class), Junior Class Winner – Layla Webb and a super set of novice handlers.

Calf results: Champion - Blydale Miss GC owned by S & T Wake; Reserve Champion- Cramar Splashing Fever Cutes ET owned by R & D Steeples, Honourable Mention – Blydale Gold Lynn owned by S & T Wake. Other calves which have qualified for the All Britain are: Cramar Lady s Janette (R&D Steeples), Cramar Brady Beatexus (R&D Steeples), Chalkhill Megasire Dolly 2 (JEG James) and Emmington A Absolute Monogram Red (Emmington Holsteins).

We wish all of our handlers, calves and young members the best of luck at the ABAB and hope we will have received some fantastic results by the time we are reading this!

We look forward to our annual dinner in January 2018 and AGM in February 2018 and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
