Averages: 60 cows and milking heifers (including nine heifer calves at £256.67) £1,035.65; 17 in-calf heifers  £838.15; 44 recently served/maiden heifers  £445.53

British Friesian dairy cattle sold to a top price of 1,420gns at the dispersal sale of the Anselm herd for Jo Taylor and Mark Davison at Marsh Gibbon, near Bicester, Oxfordshire.

The top price was for a second calver which sold to a Wiltshire buyer who also paid 1,400gns for a 8,272kg heifer due with her second calf.

A large number of milking cattle sold from between 1,200gns and 1,350gns to buyers from the West Country and the Midlands.

One of the main features of the sale was the longevity of the cattle with nine-year old cows selling to 1,120gns and 11 year old cows to 880gns.

Also, the young heifer calves sold very briskly to a top of 310gns with 250gns being paid on a number of occasions.

However, the trade on the yearlings was much more subdued and only the in-calf heifers nearest to calving selling well to a top of 1,120gns.
