Auctioneers: Hassall Brothers

With everything from bulling heifers to in-calf heifers and very good milkers, it was all about variety at the Dairy Sale. The market was packed and there was a cracking atmosphere for the first of the month show and sale. Entries hit an all time high with 140 through the sale ring and 99% clearance.  Trade was strong and very consistent from start to finish.    
A superb cow consigned by regular vendor, Tomkinson Farms Ltd, Gnosall (lot 30) was crowned 1st prize cow and overall champion – Coton-End Million Liberty GP81 topped the day’s trade at £1,670.  She is a recent second calver (10th August) and is currently giving a daily yield of 40kg.  She sold to Mr J G Williams, Nantwich.   

The award for 2nd prize cow went to lot 22, a splendid unregistered cow with a 40kg daily yield from regular vendor, Mr M T Jones, Middleton.  She sold for £1,580 to Messrs F  & N  Brunt & Sons, Moddershall. The same vendor also consigned a quality pedigree heifer, also selling at £1,580 to G A Hargreaves & Sons, Creswell.  

Champion Heifer (and overall champion) was awarded to Cracking Nettle Supreme, from new vendor, Brassington & Sons, Dorrington. The February 2014 born heifer has a 35kg daily yield and sold for £1,350 to Mr N W  Evans, Bronnington. The same vendor consigned a total of 12 superb milking heifers and was also awarded Reserve Champion heifer for Cracking Nettle Bobby. With a lineage boasting several generations of VG dams, she was snapped up by Oakley Farming Ltd, Dorrington for £1,400. The quality of the heifers on offer was very impressive. A superb pedigree heifer Knowlesmere Buttons Diamond,’ was consigned by A & J Whittaker from their renowned Knowlesmere herd (Weston-Under-Redcastle.) She calved on the 22nd August and is currently giving a daily yield of 31kg and sold to Mr G A Hargreaves & Sons, Creswell for £1,620.   

New vendor Messrs. S M Gilman & Partners, Newport received a very consistent trade for their consignments, with lot 26, Lilleshall Puzzle Gosling 31 (GP83) selling for £1,480 to Norton Hall Farms Ltd, Stone. 

In-calf heifers also sold very well, with trade topping at £1,150 for Messrs W D Sykes & Partners, Bishops Castle and selling to Mr M.T Jones, Middleton. Bulling heifers sold to £520 for a British Friesian from Mr R.G Stanley & Son, Chipnall Lees.

Culloden House Farm Ltd, Bishops Castle consigned a super bunch of predominantly autumn calvers as part of an on-going dispersal (through Market Drayton) due to a change in their farm management structure. The group sold consistently well, topping at £1,210 for lot 130, Lydham Giken Alicia.  12 others from the same group sold for over £1,050.
