Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a continued improved milk trade at the Michaelmas Collective Sale held at Sedgemoor Auction Centre junction 24, M5 on Tuesday 20th September. 
 
Living up to her name was Panda African Gold VG85-2yr from Panda Holsteins’ prolific show wining family selling for 2,500gns to John Yeoman of Shepton Mallet. Other heifers realised 1,950gns for Terry Cox’s fresh heifer Lamb Amazing Paula 109 and first time consigners R A & S A Reed’s heifer Allerways Eve 93rd, their consignment of five heifers averaged an impressive £1,833.00. At 1,900gns was Dinnaton Shottle Currency Total Eclipse from regular consigners, D C Dennis & Son Ltd.
 
The cow trade was the strongest for 12 months with 1,900gns for P J Andrew’s second calver Beneknowle Rampager Anne GP83.
 
A large entry of Holstein bulls produced a 75% clearance topping at 1,800gns for Moorshard Editor by Elude and out of the Eroy family.
 
The in-calf heifer and youngstock trade continues to prove very selective with only the stronger, close to calving heifers in any real demand. 
 
G R Vowles heifer Hukay Bogart Twiggy 2 due in October sold for 1,080gns and Pitchbury Omax Jay 2 due in December for 1,020gns for H M Heywood & Sons. Young well-bred bulling heifers from R A & S A Reed sold to 830gns for Allerways Eve 106 and Allerways Frances 16th by Download and McCormick. Yearling heifers from G J Dalton’s youngstock dispersal sold to 800gns for Bluejay Denali Maggie and Bluejay Goodwhone Cicero. The day started with heifer calves from the Bluejay herd with Grafeeti Della selling for 480gns, she was from 11 generations of VG & EX dams.
 
27 vendors travelling from Cornwall to Kent and Pembrokeshire combined with 37 purchasers from across the south west and wales.
