Averages: Ludstock herd £1,037; 10 consignments from Bennetts Farm £1,544

A top price of 1,850gns was achieved at the dispersal sale of Steven Heath’s Ludstock herd of Holstein Friesians from Ledbury which took place at Ross-on-Wye Cattle Market.

The trade for the milkers was distinctly better with buyers in attendance from West Wales, Staffordshire, Wiltshire, as well as the more local dairy farmers.

The top price was for an August calved second calver giving 40kgs daily.  She was sold to a Carmarthenshire buyer.

The entire herd averaged £1,037.

The sale also included consignments of cattle from other local milk producers.

Bennetts Farms of Worcester sold calved heifers to 1,800gns and second calvers to 1,750gns.  Their consignment of 10 cattle averaged £1,544.

In-calf heifers from Nick and Cathy Sprackling of Monmouth sold to 1,250gns and their heifer calves sold to 400gns.

A total of 133 head were all sold on the day.
