J J Morris’s first ever Purely Pedigree Show
and Sale for dairy cattle certainly lived up to its name and provided an
excellent entry full of pure pedigree quality.
Judged by Eileen Stafford of Clarberston
Holsteins the Champion and Reserve Champion went to Richard Lewis, Fronun who
presented 5 top class heifers, which also took first prize from the Group of 3
class. Champion Heifer was Roundhillsfarm Twist Veronica and Reserve Champion
was another Rounhillsfarm heifer, Roundhilsfarm Yen Peggy and joining them to
make up the winning Group of 3 was Halen Shottle Tammy 60. The judge really had
her work cut out to get down to the top two but the dairy character and power
of the Roundhillsfarm heifers carried the day over many other very sweet and
correct heifers.
The sale followed on and the judge backed up
her selections in the sale ring by purchasing both Champion and Reserve animals
at £1800. She also purchased the third heifer from the group class. The three
heifers averaged £1693. Other top prices of the day were for Tregibby
Temptation Roxy, one of the twin heifers, bred from 11 successive generations
of VG and Excellent dams, presented by Tregibby Holsteins on the day. She
really was a super heifer that had 12th generation VG/Excellent
written all over. A good buy at £1680, she joined the Paxtonview Herd of DEM
& A Davies. Also at £1680 was
another Richard Lewis heifer, Trefere Classic Dorothy. The Clynderwen herd
presented a consignment of 6 quality heifers and their best prices were £1550
and £1500 for Clynderwen Razor Hoppy and Clynderwen Samoa Dolly respectively.
22 heifers were sold in all with an excellent
top price in the recent dairy climate of £1800 on 2 occasions and a very
impressive average of £1480. A superb start for the Purely Pedigree brand. A very
competitive trade pleasing the vendors and the superb quality satisfying all
that managed to purchase. The next sale will be on Saturday 10th
December and all November calving vendors need to get in touch with entries.
