The market was buzzing with atmosphere on Wednesday for a
fantastic first of the month show and sale which was kindly judged by Mr Ian
Venables and sponsored by TAG-UK. Once
again, there was a tremendous amount of interest in this sale and a fantastic
entry of 82 animals. The sale ring was
absolutely packed with eager bidders who had travelled from far and wide, of
which 27 were successful purchasers on the day.
Trade was superb thanks to the super quality and consistency of animals
and 100% sale clearance was achieved.
Several vendors made group consignments - all of which were absolutely
fantastic. Regular, quality consigner
Tomkinson Farms Ltd, Gnosall, brought forward several excellent heifers, one of
which (lot 20) ‘Coton-End Dempsey Ivory,’ topped the day’s heifer trade at
£1800. She is currently giving a 30kg
daily yield and was purchased by Messrs F. & R. Brassington, Stoke-on-Trent. Also sharing the top
spot and selling at £1800 was a great heifer with a 32kg yield (lot 25) from
Springfield Farm Ltd, Derbyshire - the purchaser was Hunt Partnership, Crewe. Springfield Farm Ltd consigned three super
heifers for which they achieved an average selling price of £1706.66.
Messrs
R. & C. Bates, Marton Green, Winsford consigned another impressive line-up
of heifers and cows as part of their on-going dispersal through the weekly sale
at Market Drayton. The group was comprised mostly of Montbeliarde and
Swedish Red cattle and once again there was a huge demand for these tremendous animals
with their outstanding strength, condition and high volumes of milk, fat and
protein. A superb Montbeliarde
second calver (lot 8) from this group with a 38kg yield achieved the
day’s top selling price of £1920. The purchaser was Messrs PRF. &
EA. Stone & Sons, Uttoxeter. The
same purchaser also secured two other super animals from this closed herd. Prospective purchasers will be pleased to hear
that another group from this herd will be sold next week.
G.
& N. Hughes, Pwllheli consigned their stunning herd of ‘Porthgwylan’
pedigree Holsteins - a group that featured some very genuine animals with super
sires and excellent classifications.
This closed herd proved to be a real gem and appealed to the many
purchasers in attendance. These animals
sold to £1860 for lot 112, ‘Porthgwylan Sian 51 (GP83)’ - a very fresh second
calver. The purchaser was Messrs JA.
& MH. Wright, Sandbach. Another recently
calved (3rd October) super second calver from the same herd; ‘Porthgwylan
Elen 26 (VG86)’ sold for £1820 and was also crowned First Placed Cow and
Reserve Champion. She was purchased by
Messrs ME. & GE. Lloyd, Llandyssil.
This herd was keenly sough-after and achieved an average selling price
of £1291.72.
