“The best trade this year by far” was how auctioneer Gwilym Richards summed up the November Sale of Dairy Cattle at Ross-on-Wye Market.
2,280gns was the top price for a calved heifer from Brownswood Holsteins of Worcester, with others from the same home making 2,080gns and 1,750gns, averaging £2,070 for the three.
Mark and Ben Stephens of Westbury-on-Severn, Gloucester, averaged £1,949.50 for their three calved heifers with a best of 1,900gns.
Geoff Morgan of Tewkesbury sold his calved heifer for 1,950gns.
There were no cows forward.
In-calf heifers for January calving sold to 1,100gns, served heifers to 750gns, maiden heifers to 750gns and heifer calves to 280gns.
There was a total clearance and many more could have been sold on a trade that has improved in line with increasing milk prices.
