Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a continued improvement in the fresh milk trade at the annual November Collective Sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre (M5, Junction 24). 

 

A large entry of collective cows generated a fast trade to top at 2,000gns for the VG86 2nd calver ‘Culverhayes Lucas Nosegay’ for first time consigners MA & SL Reed of Honiton. Another of their 2nd calvers from the Ivy family sold for 1,850gns. Other first time consigners JS Bird & Son of Axminster sold ‘Bartonwood Paulo Honey 65th GP81’ an October 2nd calver for 1,800gns. 

 

Calved heifers topped the day at 2,450gns for Terry Cox’s VG86 heifer by Scientific Daryl ET who was giving 35kgs having calved in October. At 2,050gns was PJ Andrews’ ‘Beneknowle Deray Governess 60th’ out of a 10,000kgs dam. Bartonwood again featured in the top prices at 2,050gns for their ‘Bartonwood Smokin Saffron’ heifer. David & Valerie Norman’s consignment from their Ciderhouse herd sold to 1,980gns for their ‘Ciderhouse Beart Colanthe GP84’ heifer. 

 

Of the 3 Bulls forward on the day Max Davies’ ‘Davlea Playful’ out of the Royal Cornwall 2016 Show Champion sold for 1,600gns. 

 

5mth old heifer calves sold to 500gns x3 for R Maskell’s Grafeeti & Golden Dreams daughters. A consignment of yearling heifers from JF Cobb & Sons sold to 670gns. 

 

SE Lane & Partners brought 17 Jersey cows and heifers down from Kent to sell to 1,000gns for the for the September calved heifer ‘Hareplain Topeka Danny’ 

 

The day included the dispersal sale for Chris & Sue Lane of Oxford where 60 commercial cows and heifers topped at 1,700gns for a September calved 2nd calver giving 38kgs daily.
