12-04-2017 - £2000 FOR BLACKROSE HEIFER LEADS THE BIDS FOR FEMALES AT BEESTON MID MONTH DAIRY SALE

<<< Back to Sale Reports

The April edition of the Wright Marshall Mid Month Dairy Sale including sections for the Western Holstein Club’s Focus Milk pedigree cattle attracted an entry of 269 head in all age groups. A good Spring day no doubt affected the numbers of buyers forward but nevertheless trade sparkled for the very best with heifers selling to £2000 and cows to £1850.

MILKERS
A smaller than usual entry of 146 milkers saw an up and down trade – good for the best, the fittest and the strongest but not as good for anything smaller, plainer and lacking condition. Top price of the day was £2000 for the calved heifer Leesemanor Glauco Rose from Wilf and Pam Lomas of Byley, Middlewich. This superbly bred daughter of Glauco has seven generations of VG/Ex dams and is bred from the noted Blackrose family. She sold giving 33 kg and was purchased by Philip Plant of Eccleshall who also purchased another superbly bred heifer for £1800 from Neil Jones of Fenns Bank, Whitchurch. This daughter of JZM Goldenball has 11 generations of VG/Ex cows behind her and is from his highly respected Ethel family.

Ben and Margaret Elkin of Hilderstone, Stone put a lovely load of cattle together and paid £1900 for a daughter of Velthuis Alpine from Howard Walmsley of Garstang, £1850 for a daughter of Sid from Ricard Atkin’s Ella family and the same price for a daughter of Sullly Hart Meridian from Ballakillingan Farms Ltd of the Isle of Man. Another from the Isle of Man by Sandy-Valley Saloon sold for £1780 whilst Boty Farms of Herne Bay, Kent sold a Red and White daughter of Stardale Hernandez for £1720.

Brown Swiss Heifers sold to £1420 for a very high yielding heifer from H Davies & Partners of Puddington, Wirral.
Cows faired similarly to the heifers – good for the best, harder work for the rest. Top price was £1850 for a second calver from Chris Rutter of Delamere who sold a daughter of Million from the Miss America family giving 45 kg to the Elkins who had another member of this family, a second calver giving 42 kg., by Rickland Altaceo consigned by Mike Toms of Baldock, Herts for £1800.

YOUNG STOCK
A good entry of over 130 served and maiden heifers and heifer calves sold reasonably well for all age groups. Served heifers were up to £1200, maidens to £700 and heifer calves to £225.

WRIGHT MARSHALL of Beeston Castle Auction, Cheshire were the Auctioneers.
