The youngstock dispersal at Sedgemoor Auction Centre on Tuesday 11th April for Steanbow Ltd drew 33 successful purchasers from Cornwall to Wales to make the most of the opportunity to secure heifers from the high yielding, high indexed herd which had made the decision to buy in all future replacements.

Heifers from the “Gwenda” family by “Bomaz Altamarauder” sire due in June to “Mr Welcome Mogul Lental” sold to 1380gns with July calving heifers due to Aberdeen Angus close behind at 1370gns. Heifers by “Bookmark” due in September sold to 1220gns.

14 month old maiden heifers by “De-Su Fantasmic” with PLI’s of higher than £300 sold to 740gns. As so often seen with youngstock, the younger heifers become the dearer on the day with the 11 month old “Steanbow Nikita Oleanda” PLI £401 selling for 820gns and 5 month old heifer calves by “DG Calando ET” selling for 520gns.

The first major sale of youngstock for the year proved that quality will always sell even in trying times with the following averages achieved and a 100% clearance.
