“A great trade” was how auctioneer Gwilym Richards summed up the May Monthly Sale of Dairy Cattle at Ross-on-Wye Cattle Market “with prices back up to pre-Christmas levels”.

The top price was 2,350gns for a 4th calver from Robert and Linda Tarver of Pershore, Worcestershire, who are dispersing their Bishampton herd as they calve.  Another 4th calver sold for 2,150gns.  Their consignment of 7 cows and heifers averaged £1,991.

Calved heifers peaked at 2,000gns from Brownswood Holsteins, Worcester, with another from the same herd selling at 1,950gns.  Heifers from Mike Haskew of Glewstone and John Hoggins of Abergavenny sold for 1,850gns and a non-pedigree heifer from Richard Lewis of Carmarthen sold for 1,800gns.

A total of 21 heifers and 6 cows sold for over 1,600gns with all cattle finding new homes.

Recently served heifers also sold well to 870gns.
