12-07-2017 - Carmarthen cows create competition as they travel to Sedgemoor

<<< Back to Sale Reports

R Maskell & Partners brought their old established Gest herd of Pedigree Holsteins to Sedgemoor Auction Centre to disperse and buyers travelled from all across Somerset, Devon, Cornwall and Wales to create another good trade.
Top price of the day was a very smart freshly calved heifer by “Morningview Levi” and out of an Excellent cow, she travelled back to Carmarthen at 2000gns. Other heifers to 1800gns twice by “Bossman” and “History”. Cows sold very well to 1700gns for a freshly calved second lactation cow by a homebred stock bull. There was considerable interest in the dry cows in this predominantly autumn calving herd selling up to 1600gns for a 2011 born fourth calver.
With 30 purchasers recorded from across the South of England combined with a strong Welsh contingent the day finished up with the following very creditable averages:

In Milk and Incalf Cows £1207
Calved Heifers £1852
Incalf Heifers £1180
