There was a world class display of quality Pedigree dairy cattle on offer at the August Border & Lakeland club sale held at Borderway, Carlisle.  The outstanding catalogue attracted buyers from all the four home nations, Rep. of Ireland, France and Holland.  Trade topped at 5,800gns to average £2002 for the milking heifers with forty four exceptional lots selling for or above £2000 and a 100% clearance. 

The event was sponsored by Zoetis and Cogent and judged by Alan Smith from the Bumblebee Herd in Leicestershire his Overall Champion went to the winning Junior heifer in milk Warnelview Jordan Irene 4 consigned by KJ & CS Wilson Wood Farm, Carlisle.  She was sired by Gillette Jordan and bred from an Excellent dam, this amazing uddered heifer sold for 2,300gns to Richard Harrington Birds Hill Farm, Dalston.

There was a fantastic consignment of cows to start the sale with most of them giving over 40kgs resulting in 34 cows averaging £1955.  Topping this group and the whole sale was DG Golden Fame Red consigned by Gareth Ogden and Kevin Hay.  Fame had recently scored VG88 in her second and carries the Variant Red Gene sired by Genervation Epic her full sister sold for $270,000 in the Ri-Val-Re Sale in 2013 and her Man-O-Man dam sold for $64,000 in the Genetics by Design Sale in 2012.  This classy young cow sold for 5,800gns to Elite Haven Genetics, Rep. of Ireland.

Robert Hunter owner of the Letterkenny herd in Lanarkshire dispersed his much respected and admired Holstein herd.  Topping this fabulous consignment was Letterkenny Explode Laurie sired by Explode from a super line of the Laurie Sheik cow family.  She was fresh in her second giving 50kgs with butterfat over 4.5% and protein over 3.6%.  She sold for 4,000gns to Mr Mutton’s Billingcoat herd near Barrow in Furness.

Another star from this great herd was Letterkenny Goldfish Dellia scored VG86 in her first and just recently fresh. Her fifth dam was Snow-N Denise Dellia EX95.  She sold for 2,900gns Mr Mutton’s Billingcoat herd near Barrow in Furness.  

The Reserve Champion was also from the Letterkenny herd, Letterkenny Euphoric Gail won the Maiden Heifer class and oozed style from nose to tail.  Bred from the Startmore Gail cow family and recently bred to Solomon sexed she sold for 2,100gns to John & Gordon Lyle, Neither Pratis Farm, Fife.
