Harrison & Hetherington Ltd and North West Auctions were extremely honoured to host the Young Stock Dispersal sale of the ‘Arnot’ Herd of Pedigree Holstein Cattle on behalf of Janet Whitlow at  Lancaster Sale Centre.

A packed ringside of prospective purchasers were a reflection of a lifetime of hard work and passion for attention to breeding detail, with the herd being known as one of the very best in the UK and a real credit to Arthur & Janet Whitlow.  Impeccable pedigrees reflecting the numerous awards which the herd have achieved, the most notable being awarded the Master Breeder Shield in 2012 and winning the Best Herd in the Lancashire Herd Competition four times in 2007, 2009, 2014 and 2015 (and being placed second in 2016).

The cattle attracted strong interest from all four corners of the United Kingdom and Ireland, with no doubt from purchasers that the best of the Arnot genetics is still to come through these classy young heifers.

The sale commenced with the consignment of In Calf Heifers which looked on tremendous form, with all nearly being in calf to sexed semen with the sires chosen being the very best of the breed. Topping this section at 3300gns was from the famous ‘Carlina’ family, which have won the Family Group five times in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2015 and 2016. ‘Arnot Carlina 258’ sired by Larcrest Commander, was noted as being in calf to sexed semen from Seagull Bay MJ Solaris due 25th November and went on to join the herd of Middle Shorrock Farm. Other notable lots within the in-calf section included others from the Carlina family; ‘Arnot Carlina 262’ by Seagull-Bay Silver, in calf to Mr Rubi Agronaut achieving 2800gns and ‘Arnot Carlina 263’ by Seagull-Bay Supreme, in calf to Walnutlawn Solomon selling for 2500gns. All of the In-Calf Heifers forward from the herd averaged £2003.40.

The Bulling Heifers saw the top price of the day being achieved at 4400gns, a tremendous looking heifer in the ring, which attracted strong interest from the ringside. ‘Arnot Carlina 270’ an embryo heifer by De-Su 11914 Hilliard, with a strong pedigree behind her including her grand dam ‘Carlina 130’ EX95-5 (10 years) SP LP90. She was sold as being served to DG Charnley on the 28th June with AI Interest and selling to Wyenalley Dairy Genetics Ltd. The average achieved for bulling heifers being £1340.85.

Maiden Heifers attracted the strongest interest, with a fantastic average achieved of £1601.25 which included calves as young as 5 months old. ‘Arnot Carlina 296’ topped this section at 3700gns joining the herd at Penhill Farm. She is the maternal sister to the sale day topper ‘Carlina 270’ by Seagull-Bay MJ Solaris and noted as having a GTPI of +2244 she was also sold with AI Interest. One of the youngest calves of the sale ‘Carlina 302’ by EDG Rubicon, also sold with AI Interest went on to sell for 3600gns joining Craig Fad Farm.

The two homebred bulls on offer attracted keen interest, with ‘Arnot Crafeeti’ by Ladys-Manor RD Grafeeti out of Carlina 158. Crafeeti was noted as being maternal brother to Commodore EX within the Dungall Herd, N. Ireland. Crafeeti went on to sell for 3300gns also joining Craig Fad Farm. The bulls forward averaged £2625.00.

A fantastically well supported sale, which all purchasers would leave very proud to have gained exceptional bloodlines and breeding to add to their herds.
