The 29th Annual Bull sale held on behalf of the Border & Lakeland Holstein club featured a world class entry of bulls from the best cow families in the breed.   A huge crowd of buyers from across the UK watched as trade topped at 5,100gns to average over £3000 with fourteen bulls selling for or above £4000.

The event was sponsored by Coomara Veterinary Group and Cogent and expertly judged by Philip Halhead owner of Norbreck Genetics in Lancashire.  His Overall Champion bull was Wormanby Galantis consigned by the Hodgson family from Wormanby Farm, Carlisle.  He was a son of Crasdale Bankroll and bred from Wormanby Aftershock Gloriette EX93, an amazing young cow that has been Nominated All Britain and is the fourth generation of Excellent cows and all with massive lifetime yields.  This very classy young sire sold for 4,800gns to Jim Kennedy East Carngillan Farm, Ayrshire.  The Wormanby herd sold five world class bulls from their prize winning herd to average almost £3500 with another class winner, Wormanby Lynden selling for 4,000gns.

Nixon, Ribton House, Workington.

The overall top price on the day went to the Annandale herd owned by the Armour family near Moffat.  Annandale Farish was sired by Annandale Hector from an outstanding line of the Farrah cow family originally from Grantchester.  His Excellent dam gave almost 14000kgs at over 5% butterfat and 3.67% protein as a three year old. Hector sold for 5,100gns to AD & A Richardson Low Bank End Farm, Appleyby.

The British Friesian breeders had a top quality group of bulls on offer with trade topping at 5,000gns to average just over £3000.  The Champion British Friesian went to Winnoch Halifax consigned by Ian Brocket from Renfrewshire.  This super framed bull with close to perfect legs and feet sold for 4,000gns to DJ&RD Neil & Sons Kirminnoch Farm, Stranraer.

The Reserve Champion British Friesian bull was Nerewater Launcher Pyhl consigned by RW & J Bell Nerewater Farm, Wigton.  He was sired by Nerewater Launcher and bred from an EX91 classified dam and was sired by Marshside Roulette.  This long bodied, stylish bull sold for a top price of 5,000gns to H Noble & Sons Sooty Hill, Penrith.

The Nerewater herd sold another fine young bull for 4,700gns to G&D Wynn Brothers Bryn-Y-Fran, Colwyn Bay, North Wales.  He was sired by Lakemead Marshall and bred from an EX91 pointed dam with over 80 ton lifetime.
