<<< Back to Sale Reports

Ten animals over 3000 guineas and atop of 4200gns was the headline when Messrs D.P & F.M Day sold their 340 head Bickleygate herd on Tuesday this week. Over 50 buyers were recorded with substantial loads going to Berkshire, Leicestershire and Wales and a determined group of 13 buyers from Northern Ireland claimed over 100 head.    With strong support from all parts of Yorkshire and from over the Pennines meant a lively trade throughout.

Milking cows sold especially well with only two failing to make 4-figure prices and older cows setting the trade off to a flying start. Top price of the day went to Bickleygate Ipod Dora VG86 a fresh 3rd calver giving 47kg.  She joins the Richmark herd of Mr R Danforth from Tadcaster who also purchased a lovely red heifer by Mr Ansly Addiction, a polled red sire, from the same Dora family for 3200 gns.

There were 9 lots from the famous Papoose family that averaged an impressive £3109 and included the second highest price of 4,000 guineas, selling to Peter Waring for the Winton herd near York.  The family originated from the 5000 guinea purchase of Shanael Shottle Papoose EX93 in 2009 and other family members made 3300, 3100, 2800 & 2700gns in the sale.

Served heifers sold readily with 5 making 2000 gns or more to a top of 2,550gns for a late October calving Peggy by Addiction. She travels to Ireland.  Maiden heifer reached 2000gns or more 4 times and peaked at 2,200gns for a red Amax daughter with a PLI of +£410, now heading for west Wales.  Calves at foot averaged £685 with atop, price of 2300gns for Bickleygate Mission Roxy P ET a 4 month old calf with a PLI +£463 and contract interest from Germany.
