A large company of buyers from as far afield as Somerset, Staffordshire and Wiltshire attended the sale of the entire milking portion and crop of in-calf heifers at Burghill, Hereford, for Dennis Jones and family.

 

The top price was 2,100gns for a January calved heifer sired by Woodmarsh Metalic calving again next January.  She was off a 11,216kg Topspeed Kodak daughter.

 

An August calved heifer by Woodmarsh Metalic sold for 2,000gns.  Her dam had recorded 11,498kgs with her 4th calf.

Cows sold to 2,000gns for a 2nd calver by Kings Ransom P Richman.  She had recorded 8,673kgs as a heifer and was giving 42kgs daily two weeks into her next lactation.

 

In-calf heifers sold to 1,400gns for a December calving daughter of Cogent Twist.  She was in-calf to Wiltor Hurricane and off a 9,339kg dam sired by Woodmarsh Metalic.

 

Auctioneer Gwilym Richards reported that the trade was very level throughout for the milkers and attracted considerable interest despite the cows being wintered on straw yards.

12 in-calf heifers  £1,254.75
