There was a complete clearance of cattle
at the December Monthly Collective Sale of Dairy Cattle at Ross-on-Wye Cattle
Market on a cold icy day with prices rising to over £2,000 on four occasions.
The top price was 2,180gns (£2,289) for
a calved heifer from Oughton Farms, Moreton-on-Marsh, with other heifers from
the same home selling to 2,020gns (£2,121).
Geoff and Jean Williams of Hay-on-Wye
sold a calved heifer for 2,000gns (£2,100).
Top priced cow was a 2nd
calver from Robert and Linda Tarver, Pershore, which sold for 1,980gns (£2,079)
and 4th calvers selling to 1,830gns (£1,922).
Auctioneer Gwilym Richards commented
that the trade for the best was very fast but those with faults were heavily
discounted.
