The February Collective Sale held at Sedgemoor Auction Centre on Tuesday 20th February saw a good trade throughout with one of the fastest youngstock trades seen for many months with excellent quality rewarded with top prices.

The sale for milkers reached 2300gns for the “Hinton Grafeeti Tripoli” from RH Horton & Son who was giving over 40 kgs and sold along with a large consignment heading to West Wales. First time consignors A & G Hardwick Ltd sold their 39 kgs heifer by” Alta Hotrod” for 2100gns. Regular consignors Rookhaye Estate sold a “Wiltor Cruise” daughter for 2080gns. Other Vendors with heifers over £2000 included RE & HE Bugler & Partners and Longmoor Farm Ltd.

Freshly calved cows sold to 2050gns for A & G Hardwick Ltd for an “Alta Omega” daughter from their Stantonbury herd. “Kingspool Amotory Roxy” sold for 2000gns for PE King (Bristol) Ltd with other cows to 1950gns for RD Horton & Son and Longmoor Farm Ltd.

The day started as usual with a selection of heifer calves and the quality on offer was handsomely rewarded with an excellent trade with a top price of 680gns x4 for 24 week old calves from Reading University’s Whiteknights herd, which went on to average a very impressive £594. 12 week old “Rookhaye Silver Flora” sold for 540gns for Rookhaye Estate.

Keith and Jane Hulbert continued their dispersal with a large selection of incalf heifers selling to a top of 1620gns for a non-pedigree heifer by “Cogent Twist”, 1520gns x2 for daughters of “Bookmark” and “Bakombre”. 1380gns was the top price for the Oldhurst incalf heifers not due until June and by “Fantasmic”.

A consignment of summer calving crossbred cows from GV Sparkes & Sons created a lot of interest and topped at 1380gns for a Norwegian Red Cross due in August.
