The Lady Day Collective Sale at
Sedgemoor Auction Centre on Tuesday 20th March produced a level trade for the
reduced entry on offer despite seasonality and falling milk prices reducing
enthusiasm in the industry.
First time consigners TCF Wiltshire
Ltd achieved the top price in the sale when they commenced their herd dispersal
with 26 well-bred freshly calved cows and heifers. Their February calved April
2016 born heifer “Sulgray Franchise Collona GP81” giving 30 kgs sold to
1850gns. Their second calver “Sulgray Aftershock Lavender 2nd VG85” calved in
March and giving 45 kgs sold for 1820gns.
Other cows sold to 1800gns for TR
Quick’s second calver “Mendip Lancer Blossom 50th GP82” by the homebred sire
“Mendip Lancer ET”. Other Vendors to 1720gns and 1700gns are PE King (Bristol)
Ltd, TCF Wiltshire Ltd and JS Bird & Son. Other calved heifers sold to
1780gns for TCF Wiltshire Ltd, 1740gns for Longmoor Farm Ltd and 1720gns for TR
Quick.
Incalf heifers sold to 1340gns for
Keith and Jane Hulbert’s continued dispersal with “Janke Altabarney Lulu” a
“Shottle” granddaughter with a PLI of £243. Others to 1330gns, 1320gns and
1300gns all due mid-May to the Aberdeen Angus Bull.
A shortage of youngstock resulted in
an excellent trade for bulling heifers for KW & JM Hulbert Ltd selling to
930gns x 2 for daughters of “Canada SS Loveboat ET” and Sunglass ET”.
February born heifer calves from K
Rickard & MA Webber out of “Withamhall” dams with PLI’s of £316 and £362
sold for 390gns.
