There was a packed ringside to see an entry of 40 animals pass through the sale ring on 21st March at Market Drayton, with 13 animals selling for over £2,000, with many others cruising over £1,800 and a total clearance of all animals.

The trade was led by an outstanding third lactation cow from Hankins Heys Farm Ltd of Bureton, Nantwich who consigned eight fabulous in milk cows and heifers to average £2177.50. Hankins Seaver Nosegay is sired by the great R-E-W Seaver, a bull that has sired many great animals including numerous who have passed through this market. This super cow calved on the 8th February and was yielding 49kg daily, and sold for £2,500 to PA & HM Wilson & Son, Fradswell Staffordshire, who also took home with them Hankins Fever Orchid another great 3rd calved cow from the same consigner at £2,350.

Also from this home was Hankins Gerard June, who calved on the 28th February and was yielding 52kg daily, she was secured by regular purchasers, BG & MA Elkin & Sons Ltd of Hilderstone. The Elkin's family also took for £2,220 Hankins Ingenious Tracy.

Heifers sold to £2,300 for Bari Evans, Ruthin for an unregistered heifer which was 10 days fresh and already giving 28kg. She was purchased by Oakley Farming Ltd of Dorrington, Shropshire. In addition they purchased lot 37, Saxelby Dreamweaver Patricia from the same home for £2,080.

T G Phillips consigned another cracking line up of heifers, with Burgedin Maxigoat Norah his top seller. A Ceri Maxigoat daughter, she calved on the 10th March and was yielding 28kg and was snapped up by HP Price & Sons, Shrewsbury for £2,250.

We witnessed two bulls pass through the ring with the leading price of £2,000 for Foxcroft Rocky sired by the great De Su Fantasmic. This bull was consigned by David Rees Farms, Hunsterson Cheshire. Bred from nine generations of animals classified VG or EX, with a PLI of £300 it’s clear to see why this bull was in such demand. Following intense bidding he was secured by J L Trow of Emstrey, Shrewsbury.
