£2650 THE LEADING PRICE AT THE MONTHLY SHOW AND SALE

A smaller than normal entry with 35 passing through the sale ring today but what a trade for all animals on offer. The first of the month is the Show and Sale and this April’s sale was very kindly judged by Mr R Trow of Emstrey and what a great run of animals consigned to make this job an enjoyable challenge.

The sale ring was bursting at the seams today; the atmosphere was tremendous and certainly made the sale have the feel good factor!

The trade was led at £2,650 for the Reserve Champion from new vendor H R Lewis of Abergwilli, Carmarthen. This heifer won her class and then went on to take the reserve champion ribbon, Leahug Regent Amy 2nd, calved on the 17th March and was yielding 33kg daily. She was certainly in high demand with the hammer finally falling to purchaser Mr E Witter & Sons of Carters Green, Crewe, they also took home with them another super heifer from Carmarthen, again first time consigner Lloyd Thomas Plas Ltd, of Bancyfelin, consigned this super heifer sired by Mincio placed third in the heifer class yielding 33kg daily she was secured for £2,550.

The first place cow and overall champion was taken by R J Clare of Adderley, for Hawksmoor Chancery 82nd this second calved cow was yielding 42kg daily and was secured by the judge Messrs J L Trow of Emstrey.

Heifers from Allview Farming sold to £2,200 for a heifer 10 days calved. C D & C R Latham had a good consignment forward, selling to £2,150 to Messrs BG & MA Elkin & Sons, Hilderstone.

Mr D N James & Co of Crosswood, Aberystwyth sold Meadowfort Willpower Lady 103rd, a heifer fresh calved on the 18th March yielding 25kg for £2,100 to Oakley Farming of Dorrington.

Other great heifers sold over £2,000, including a super unregistered heifer from H R Lewis of Carmarthen realising £2,050.

A quality selection of heifers cruised over the £1,900 barrier throughout the course of the sale.

Weaned calves sold to £460 for a local vendor.

Thank you once again to our judge and to all of the vendors and purchasers for enabling us to have another cracking day at Market Drayton and helping us to make this such a strong and consistent week on week sale.

With over 20 already entered for next weeks sale we are expecting a big entry of quality groups of milking cows and heifers together with a cracking group of over 40 Dispersal youngstock of all ages also entered.
