HEIFERS TO £2400 AND COWS TO £2000

With 160 head catalogued this month at Beeston Castle Auction, the Famous Wright Marshall Mid Month Sale of Pedigree andCommercial Dairy cattle including sections for the Western Holstein Club’s Focus Milk cattle, took place on Tuesday, 10th April with 159 forward, where else can you go for volume, choice and quality all one day?

Cattle found new homes in 7 different counties, from North Yorkshire and Lancashire in the North, numerous different accounts throughout North Wales, not to mention the continued local support from both buyers and seller alike, making this Sale the biggest available anywhere in the UK on one day. Once again the large crowd of potential purchasers, all eagerly bidding, ensured an unrivalled trade, with a total of 30 active purchasers recorded on the day. Trade started off well with the cows, perhaps not the dizzy heights as seen previously, more to do with quality forward rather than market trend.

MILKING COWS AND HEIFERS

130 milkers were presented for sale this month, with a large proportion of immature heifers, lacking strength, which would have benefitted from finer weather, added keep in clamps and a lot more grass than we have at present. However the top end was a pleasure to sell, regularly flying past 2k for both cows and powerful heifers. There truly is something for everyone at the Mid Month, to suit all taste and pockets, from the very best over £2000, to three quartered or uneven in the udder.

IN-CALF HEIFERS

22 In-calf heifers met a similar trade to that of
£1520, firstly for an Altaentrust daughter just a month off calving to Angus, then a Lexon daughter, this time two months off to the Angus. June calvers from RB & MJ Webster topped at £1480 for a Bryant daughter in-calf to Welsh Black, with other Masterful daughters from the same home topping at £1400 carrying a service to Lineman for the summer. More required next month to meet demand.

AVERAGES:
19 Cows £1435; 110 Milking Heifers £1604.02; 22 In-calf & Served Heifers £1020.91.
