Despite the late spring the Annual Spring Fever Sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre on Tuesday 17th April generated a good demand for fresh milk and incalf heifers.

The calved heifer “Dorset Sammy Fable” from Dimond Farming Ltd topped the day at 2080gns. Other calved heifers sold to 1900gns and 1880gns for “”Kingspool” PE King (Bristol) Ltd and 1720gns x 2 for RD Horton & Sons “Hinton” herd.

Calved cows were in Strong demand selling to 2020gns for GJ & FL Robertsons “Dayhouse Michelob Caroline 2nd” a January calved third lactation cow giving 47 kgs and 1920gns for the second calver “Dayhouse Dodge Trilby”. Other cows sold to 1950gns for RD Horton & Sons second calver “Hinton Eddie Maud 2nd VG85” and 1850gns for the commercial January calved second lactation cow from Anton T Smith of Badminton. 

Incalf heifers from “Kingspool” due July to sexed semen sold to 1380gns for the “Kingspool Henry Roma” and 1330gns for the “Kingspool Henry Edith”. The continued dispersal for “Janke” saw incalf heifers due August to the Aberdeen Angus sell for 1320gns for “Janke Tabasco Kate”.

All five bulls catalogued sold, with a top of 1350gns for Catherine Elme’s “Crystal 1st Class Jedi” born 9th February 2017.

The current concerns over late turnout possible resulted in a steadier youngstock trade with October 2016 born maiden heifers selling to 890gns for R & J Targett’s “Carymoor” heifers. “Carymoor Ding Dong Delight Red” and “Carymoor Dynamic May”. Heifer calves sold to 380gns x 2 for Reading Universities “Whiteknights Foster Galaxy” and “Watt Burma” born November 2017.

The dispersal of the commercial flying herd for Brian Oram topped at 1420gns for a second calver “Heavenly Golden Dreams” daughter due in September to the British Blue.
