<<< Back to Sale Reports

Robin Heath of Lee Farm, Rushton Spencer, Macclesfield was blessed with a day of wonderful sunshine for his on farm dispersal sale. The atmosphere and trade was a real reflection of the glorious weather. With great crowds there was a real feel of the bygone era of on farm dispersals which seemed to be a regular fixture in the calendar in years past. With over 400 lots sold across the herd of Fleckvieh /Montbeliarde’s and machinery there was strong interest and busy bidding across all lots on offer.

The sale kicked off with the cows being sold at 11 am; taking advantage of the fantastic weather the sale ring was set up outside in the yard which added to the traditional on farm sale feel. The cows looked in terrific condition which was reflected in the strong and consistent trade. Two cows hit the £2000 mark which included a 4th calver Pedigree Fleckvieh that was 50 days in milk and giving just under 36kg a day. This cow had tremendous power and balance and was purchased by A Wright, Reynolds Farm, Sandbach, Cheshire. Andrew Wright certainly had his eye on quality at the sale and also went home with a superb Montbeliarde X that was in her 3rd lactation and currently yielding 35kg.

There were several volume buyers on the day that came from far and wide including G. Beresford & Son, Tenley Farm, Hellifield, Cumbria who was the happy purchaser of a total of 44 animals. These topped at £1,900 for a fresh 4th calved Fleckvieh that was currently giving just shy of 30kg. Additional animals purchased included a range of milking cows, dry cows and incalf heifers.

Another volume buyer that successfully purchased a total of 36 animals was P&L Farming, Spring Farm, Ensdon Lane, Yarlett.

Incalf heifers were in great demand on the day and sold well despite no calving date information with trade hitting £1,100 for a Montbeliarde that was 20 months old and has been running with the bull since November.

In total there were 178 animals sold on the day with 19 buyers.

AVERAGES:

100 cows (including cows with faults) sold for an average of £1,110.
28 Incalf heifers sold for an average of £829.
44 Maiden heifers sold for an average of £379.
3 Fleckvieh bulls with an average age of 10 months sold for an average of £700 1 Fleckvieh bull at 3 months of age sold for £450

With the herd sale in full swing the sale of the Machinery commenced at 1pm and with over 200 lots to sell there was no time to waste as bidding was fast and furious.

Items of note that sold included a Lemken DL110 3 furrow reversible plough which at over 30 years old sold well at £860 to J Bourne of Valley Farm, Thorncliffe Rd, Leek. The same buyer also took home the immaculately barn stored Rozmital 4.5m tedder which sold for £3,700. With a keen eye for the genuine and well maintained kit he also purchased the tidy and again barn stored Vicon Rotaflow fertiliser spreader which sold strongly at £1,000. A Browns single leg mole plough which again was of some age hit £440 and was purchased by Harris and Partners of New Hall Farm.

Additional items sold included the 2001 HiSpec 1000 muck spreader which sold for a price of £3,900 which certainly reflected the condition and little use of the machine.

We would like to thank all buyers for providing great support to Rob and wish all buyers across both the herd and the machinery all the very best with their purchases.

Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to wish Robin Heath and family all the very best with their future endeavours, it was an absolute pleasure working with them and their attitude and approach certainly contributed to the wonderful feel good factor that everyone experienced on the day.
