With 236 head catalogued this month at Beeston Castle Auction, the Famous Wright Marshall Mid Month Sale of Pedigree andCommercial Dairy cattle including sections for the Western Holstein Club’s Focus Milk cattle, took place on Tuesday, 8th May with 196 forward, where else can you go for volume, choice and quality all on one day?

What a great days trading! The favourable weather conditions certainly, along with the grass, sprang into action today at Beeston Castle Auction. Once again a decent crowd of potential purchasers gathered ringside, with those in attendance there to do business. Throughout the day’s trading a total of 41 active purchasers were recorded, with both new and repeatcustomers attracted to the sale for both its quality and choice. With more selling for over £2300, than there were under £1000.

MILKING COWS AND HEIFERS

114 Cows and milking heifers were presented for sale, including 93 milking heifers to average £1742 (including faults, and all breeds). There truly is something for everyone at the Mid Month, to suit all taste and pockets, from the very best over £2000, to three quartered or uneven in the udder. The better end are always a pleasure to sell, and perhaps the easiest too, however today the good cow making heifers more than benefited from the upturn in weather and a flush of grass, with the heifers between £1500 to £1800 looking best sold on the day.

IN-CALF & RECENTLY SERVED HEIFERS

The wonderful entry of 67 in-calf and recently served heifers met a trade to rival anywhere else. Topping the day was a powerful June calving heifer from Aintree Holsteins, carrying sexed semen with a broken pedigree from the Linda family, she sold for £1900 to RB & J Jones & Son, Chester. This was closely followed by a pair of heifers selling for £1750 each, firstly for P & A

Mercer, sold a month of calving to Brekem and backed by 5 generations of VG/EX, selling to J R Thomas, with the other at £1750 from Aintree Holsteins, due in August to Hartley she travels to C Wall, Brimfield. £1720 was paid for a July calver from Aintree, with others from the same home at £1700. Billockby Farms Ltd also selling to £1700 for a Zeber daughter due in June. More required next month to meet demand.
