JUNE MID MONTH SEE – BULLS TO £2250 – COWS TO £3050 – HEIFERS TO £2450!

The Famous Wright Marshall Mid Month Dairy Cattle Sale including sections for the Western Holstein Club’s Focus Milk pedigree cows and heifers attracted an entry of 328 head of which 294 were forward on the day. A great days trading occurred today, with more selling over two thousand pounds, than under £1200. Supported once again by our extensive contingent of buyers, with a total of 48 active purchasers across two rings on the day, representing 9 different counties, plus our regular and loyal support from Cheshire.

MILKING COWS AND HEIFERS

The quality today was once again tremendous, consistent throughout, especially for the volume of dairy cattle we are able to cater for on one day here at Beeston. Our thanks once again must go to our vendors. Returning faces, new clients from across the UK and of course the regulars who reap reward from both the facilities and service we provide. From lairage service provided both pre-sale and during the course of the day, straw and haylage on arrival, washing and milking facilities plus a catalogue production from just an ear tag number, received in our office. 148 milkers were presented for sale, just to emphasise the level of trade; there were 24 selling over £2000, 79 over £1600 and only 7 selling for under £1000 and considering there were 21 animals sold with faults, either three quartered, light or uneven or slow to milk, made for a remarkable days trading.

IN-CALF, RECENTLY SERVED & MAIDEN HEIFERS

The wonderful entry of 145 youngstock of all ages, from two month old heifer calves to close calving heifers, took place in ring two with a decent crowd of potential buyers ringside. Trade somewhat reflected the fodder situation, cautious, selective upon type, with purchasers slightly reluctant particularly if no rain arrives. However, those that ticked boxes sold readily. In-calf heifers topped at £1500 of two occasions, both for F R Buckingham & Son, both a month off calving and carrying sexed semen to Supershot, bought by G Thomasson and L E Weston. Distant traveller David Ishmael sold heifers to £1460 due in a month to Angus and purchased by N M Roberts. Finally the best of R D Bramall’s heifers selling to £1450 for a Corinthian daughter due to sexed semen in July. Maiden heifers met more caution than that of the in-calf section. Topping an £850 for an 8 month old heifer from The Downing Partnership, sired by Amour with a PLI of +£466, selling to R Webster, Stocksbridge. F R Buckingham & Son dominated the entry with a dispersal of 70 head, mostly bulling heifers with the vast majority selling well above £700, topping at £800.

Just the one Bull forward today, a pedigree Simmental from J Wainwright & Sons, Macclesfield, a powerful 40 month old selling for £2250.
