Dispersal of the Llanewydd Herd of Pedigree Holstein Friesians
Retirement from dairy farming for Brian and Sian Phillips attracted a capacity crowd to the Welsh Dairy Centre at Whitland that resulted in a record heifer average for the centre. Based on graded up families sired by locally sourced herd sires fast and furious bidding was seen for all categories from this all year calving, grass based herd regularly returning above average results for milk from forage.
Early lots of fresh heifers reached £2500 twice both daughters of Rhydygors Laser Jo. Llanewydd Jo Carys 5 returned to the home of her sire bid by Glyn and Tomos Davies with the other, Llanewydd Jo Avril 2 joining the Penyback herd of Carwyn Richards at Llandyfaelog. At £2400 Llanewydd Jo Gwladys was one of several purchases by Chris Bevan for their herd at East Pool culminating in a final average of over £2000 for the group.
Leading the cows was the Red Jo Hazel joining the Lan herd of Robert and Emyr Bowen at £2300 with the fresh second calver Llanewydd Ross Delia joining M/s Bevan’s herd at £2200.
Daughters of the Rhydygors sire again led the in calf heifers at £2000 with a pair from the small group of heifer calves by Castellhyfryd Attitude Rufus achieving £1000 each to Eric Webb’s Cilvoden herd.
