NEW RECORD FOR COW AS ELEGANCE SOARS TO 6200 GNS

AT BEESTON CLUB SALE

Just two months after the record for a milking heifer was smashed at the Western Club Sale in March the record for a cow was totally blitzed when the third calf Forte CS Elegance ET (VG85), a daughter of Comestar Stormatic and bred from six generations of Excellent dams, the last two being (Ex96), was sold for 6200 gns as part of the first portion to disperse the Forte Herd on behalf of AL & HF Nottage of Seething, Norwich.

The sale attracted an entry of 100 cows and milking heifers many of which were placed before Judge Ian Williamson of the Wardle Herd who selected his champion from the well known Bidlea Herd of Ray Brown & Partners; Bidlea Sara Beauty was a real beauty and a daughter of the Brown’s very successful stock bull, the Talent son, Copywood Sarson Red. Reserve Champion was a very sweet heifer from Rob Clare, Hawksmoor Lianne 48th, a daughter of his stock bull Hawksmoor Renown, a son of Boss Iron.

Trade was far better than expected and was no doubt helped by the inclusion of the first part of the Forte Dispersal as well as some very good consignments of heifers from noted breeders who are providing what the market wants. The sale was well attended and many went home with nothing or far less than they originally intended to buy; so despite the huge numbers of heifers being imported from the continent commercial milk producers are still prepared to for quality milky heifers with good udders, width and strength.

The top price, of course was for the wonderful Elegance cow. With lots of interest in the ring and four bidders on the phone, the hammer was eventually knocked down to Mark and Susan Nutsford of Riverdane Holsteins, Middlewich. Two other members of the Forte consignment were knocked down to Martin Monckton at Nantwich; Forte Advent Scarlet Red, a March calved milking heifer by Advent bred from 5 generations of VG/EX dams sold for 3400 gns and at 3000 gns he purchased the January calved heifer Forte Leduc Cocoa (VG85-2yr) who was the 8th generation of animals classified in the top two grades. From the same home Mark Lee of Northampton purchased Forte RDS Olga (VG87-3yr), a third calf daughter of Mr.Sam sold giving 40 kg daily.

The second top price of the day was for Riverdane Talent Avis, bred by Riverdane Holsteins but consigned by Stan Price of Mellor, Stockport; this exceptionally well bred, good looking heifer was only eight days calved and sold for 3900 gns to John Moore of Co. Offaly, Republic of Ireland.

The largest consigners of the day were Andrew and Sue Sanders of the Isle of Man who presented 21heifers for sale and what an exceptional group they were; their top was 2500 gns for Sandisfarne Kiana Hope, a daughter of Bolton out of a 50 tonne VG88 dam. She sold giving 38 kg to Martin Monckton. The champion heifer from Ray Brown & partners sold for 2450 gns to regular purchasers NE & EM Bargh & son of Osbaldeston Hall, Blackburn.
