SAMUELO DAUGHTER TOPS BONVILLE SALE 2000 GNS

A useful crowd attended Beeston Castle Auction for the sale of the entire milking portion and crop of in-calf heifers of the Bonville Herd of Pedigree Holsteins, the property of JW Tuer & Son, Birkby Fate Farm, Great Smeaton, Northallerton, North Yorkshire when they were sold on Tuesday, 6th July..

The top price was 2000 gns for the Samuelo daughter Bonville Samuelo Solda, a heifer approaching the end of her first lactation and due with her second in September to Shottle. She was the choice of Richard and Trevor Lloyd for their Islandpride Herd based on the Isle of Anglesey. The next top was 1900 gns paid for Bonville Bradley Snowflake, a daughter of Rockalli Bradley also due with her second to Shottle in October. She was one of 21 head purchased Herefordshire based commercial milk producer, Fred Simcock.

At 1820 gns another Samuelo daughter, Bonville Samuelo Jess again due in the summer to Shottle with her second calf, was the choice of Charles Sherwin of Middlewich whilst the Lloyds of Anglesey were in the market again purchasing the second calver, Bonville Freeman Wilson for 1750 gns. Six animals made 1600 gns or more and were led by Bonville Samuelo Kirsty 2nd , a summer calving dry cow carrying her second calf to Bolton, purchased by Lower Shorrock Hey Farms Ltd of Blackburn.

The milking portion sold very well for all classes and ages, but the in-calf heifers were harder work and no doubt a big reason for this would be the sudden lack of grass right across the country. They were topped at 1550 gns for Bonville Gibson Scottie, a daughter of Silky Gibson selling top Alastair Drinkall of Wettenhall, Winsford.
