MILKING HEIFERS TO £2350 AT BEESTON MID-MONTH. MUCH FASTER TRADE FOR EVERYTHING

Wright Manley’s famous Mid-Month Sale of Pedigree and Commercial Dairy Cattle attracted an entry in excess of 150 head, which is considerably smaller than the usual numbers that have been entered in the last eighteen months or so. There are definitely less cattle about the country available for sale and there is still lots of demand out there from buyers who need to maintain their production.

This month there were many fresh faces around the ring with several purchasing more than ten head each. No other market in the country can offer this huge choice of pedigree and commercial dairy cattle that buyers so clearly need to meet their requirements. The cattle were sold to a large crowd of buyers and the cattle were distributed to farms from Cumbria to South Wales as well as Cheshire and its surrounding counties. Trade was considerably dearer than one month ago with most animals increasing in value towards £200 per head.

Top price of the day was £2350 for a heifer from EV & B Boughey of Tarporley selling to Wilmot Blockley of Tarvin. The next top seller was the pedigree heifer Swaffham Garrison Beatrice 2nd from brothers Jack and Barclay Taylor of Myddle, Shrewsbury; she sold for £2320 to Bob Moss of Onneley, Crewe. Not far behind at £2300 was the a non pedigree daughter of Lucente out of a Swedish Red cross dam from David Ishmael of Wigan which sold to P & A Howard of Winsford. Another pedigree heifer from the Taylors, Roanhead Incredible Angel by Denmire Incredible, sold for £2280 to Wilmot Blockley and at £2250 the Howard’s were in the market again securing the Erbacres Damion heifer, Poringland Graceful 30th from CR Cawston Ltd of Beccles, Suffolk.

A further eight animals sold for prices between  £2150 and £2000 including two from Fred Schofield of Acton Bridge and others from J.Bowden & Co., Malpas, Petwr Waring, Beverley, Roston Partners, Winsford, Hollington Farms, Chelmsford, Essex and Marshall Barnett of Holmes Chapel.

The top price cow was £1980 for a second calf daughter of Riverdane Elegant from George Sanderson & Family of Preston; their Sandley Present 66th sold to Messrs Gethin of Caersws.

In-calf heifers sold to £1600 twice; firstly for Tibenham Blade Naomi 38th, a daughter of Palmcrest Blitz Blade from RC Rout & Son, Norfolk and secondly for Whitecarr RSVP Anna from David Ishmael. A very small entry of Maiden Heifers sold to £660 for a yearling heifer by Rampage Red from A & L Greenwood of Chester and calves sold to £420 for a five week old daughter of Ensdon Harrys Choice from Colin Weston, Whitchurch.
