MASSIVE MID MONTH SALE BRINGS OUT THE BUYERS

GREAT TRADE AND A TOP OF £2550

 

The September Edition of Wright Manley’s famous Mid Month Sales of Pedigree and Commercial Dairy Cattle received the biggest entry of the year so far, in excess of 450 Head with about 390 being forward on the day. This massive entry attracted buyers from far and wide with the cattle being distributed as far away as Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, Cornwall, North, Mid and South Wales as well as Cheshire and its surrounding counties. In all over 100 buyers were recorded.

 

The top price was achieved by a beautiful heifer consigned by Mark Bowden of Malpas; Holbeck Dondee Sunset 295th is a daughter of Langs Twin Elms B Dondee and was sold giving 34 kg. to JS & A Whitehurst of Bramshall, Uttoxeter. A total of fifteen animals broke the £2000 mark; the next in line were two heifers consigned brothers Jack and Barclay Taylor of Myddle, Shrewsbury who achieved £2300 on twice. The homebred Burnbrae Vaughan Erica, by Stardale Vaughan sold to JG & CA Bayley, Nuneaton and the homebred Burnbrae Fantasy Minnie by Tiveys Fantasy sold to John Morris & Sons of Llangollen. There were then another two selling at £2150 apiece; the first Emmington Chellenger Torch by Excellence Challenger from RJ Rose & Son Ltd of Oxford sold to Messrs Bayley whilst a non pedigree shorthorn cross heifer also sold at this figure to Messrs SG Lee & Son of Wolverhampton. A lovely daughter of Far o La Debbie Jo Decker from W Ridge & Partners of Rotherham sold for £2120 to G Green & Son Northwich and at £2100 a Mr.Minister from John Allen of Burton on Trent sold to Messrs Whitehurst.

 

Coloured breeds sold to £1800 for an superb second calf Ayrshire from Marshall and Patsy Barnett of Holmes Chapel selling to JA & MH Wright of Sandbach. Brown Swiss cross heifers sold to £1500 for an entry from Farrick Farms of Preston and Jerseys topped at £1020 for an entry from Mrs Judith Waring of Beverley.

 

The major consigners of the day were Messrs R. Sharman & Sons of Newark Notts who are starting to disperse their noted Holbeck Herd of Pedigree Holsteins through these sales. This first consignment included all those cows that have calved since May and up until the middle of August. They had a tremendous trade and sold to a top of £2250 for the August calved heifer Holbeck Baltic Flush sired by Cogent Baltic. She sold to Messrs Wright of Sandbach. Two animals sold at £2050 each; the first, a July calved heifer by Bolton sold to James Harrison Farming Ltd of Tattenhall and the second, a June calved Shottle heifer sold to G Green & Son, Northwich.

 

The Sharman’s also made a consignment of youngstock from their herd selling 36 heifers from five to eleven months of age; two broke the four figure mark selling at £1150 and £1050 and both were for daughters of Autumn Ridge Matson and both sold to Mark Bowden. However young stock topped at £1300 for a fourteen month old daughter of Braedale Bambam from John Allen selling to Ivygrove Holsteins of Whitchurch.

 

A small selection of served heifers due in November consigned by Alan Orme of Whitley sold to £1900 for a daughter of Watergate Delegate with others selling at £1850, £1800 etc

294 COWS and MILKING HEIFERS £1397.24; 16 Served Heifers £1500.63; 95 Maiden Heifers £715.82;
