“Golden Trade for Milk at Annual Autumn Gold Sale @ Sedgemoor Auction Centre”
Tuesday 2nd November was the date of Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s Annual Autumn Gold Sale held at Sedgemoor Auction Centre. A day when quality counted saw the most improved trade for several months with the best milking cows and heifers repeatedly selling for 2000gns +. The day’s top price of 2150gns was shared by “Bettiscombe Principal Strawberry” the 2nd lactation “Crichel Principal” daughter that was giving 43kgs consigned by Roland & Simon Bugler and “Ciderhouse Dictator Talia” the October calved heifer out of the VG85 dam consigned by David & Valerie Norman.
Four heifers from the “Dorset” herd of Ian Dimond generated the day’s best average of £2140 with members of the Molly, Ally B, Lapwing & Queen families all selling for over 2000gns to a top of 2100gns for the daughter of the EX91 “Littlebredy Stormforce”. Others to over 2000gns were the heifers “Libertyview Zenith Hilda” from B Rose & Son and a red and white “Marcroft LPT Tim & Ali Lydia Red” from Eric Puddy.
The largest collective sale of youngstock for the year met a very selective trade with close to calving tidy heifers selling well & lesser quality off lying heifers harder to sell. Incalf heifers from JAW Bendall & Son’s “Pensdown” herd sold to 1350gns for “Miss Muffet” by “Jenny Lou Marshall Toystory” and out of the 11,000kgs VG87 dam she was due to “Baxter” in November.
The six bulls forward all sold to average £1064 and topped at 1300gns for “Bettiscombe Shottle Nimrod” who was out of 7 generations of Ex dams & from the Buglers.
The Incalf & bulling heifer dispersal from Mr & Mrs RW Ham saw five freshly calved heifers average £1,627.50 to a top price of 1820gns for “Wellington Zanzibar Rosebud”. The Incalf heifers due in December sold to 1260gns for “Peewit Revolution Magenta” with the recently served & bulling heifers averaging £773.
A day when many milk buyers went home empty handed generated the following averages:-
