A good crowd of buyers attended the sale of the entire July to January calving portion of Raymond and David Jones’ Radnor herd based at New Radnor Presteigne, Powys, where a level trade was recorded.
Two animals made 2,700gns. The first was the VG86 pointed calved heifer Radnor Shottle Margot. The Picston Shottle sired daughter was off a 12,503kg Crichil Principal cow. The buyers were W R & M Thomas & Son of Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, for their Gwynnog herd.
Also travelling down the M4 onto the Gower Peninsula was the other 2,700gns sale, the 3rd calver Radnor Duplex Kapeno. The unclassified Mesland Duplex daughter was out of 8 generations of cows in the top two grades. Acquiring her for the Clfftop herd was W J B Tucker of Swansea, West Glamorgan.
Another Duplex daughter, the GP84 heifer Radnor Duplex Tilly off a 10,364kg VG88 Comestar Stormatic sold for 2,220gns to F W & R J Simcock of Ledbury, Herefordshire.
Andrew Alford of Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, bid 2,120gns for the VG85 heifer Radnor Outsider Pepper. The Wyevalley Outsider daughter was off a 11,796kg Grangeley cow, and was giving 39kgs daily when sold.
L A Jones of St Clears, Carmarthenshire, purchased the second calver Radnor Bradley Julie for 2,100gns. The Rockalli Bradley daughter was out of a 9,606kg Formation cow.
Seven cattle sold for 2,000gns or more and the 67 head sold averaged £1,498.99 per life.
