Holstein South Wales Annual HARFAT and Xmas Cracker Show and Sale – 1st December 2010

Carmarthen Livestock Centre proved once more the only place to sell the quality pedigree dairy cows of South Wales. The club time after time never fail to present a show of animals to match the figures and pedigrees from the catalogue.The show saw 24 cows and heifers entered with over a 100 cows classified Excellent or Very Good in their ancestry and the Christmas Cracker offering saw 6 heifer calves out of a further 43 dams classified Very Good or better.

1st in the cow class and overall Champion for the day was Penrikka Jordan Bluebell VG85. She was purchased by Dyfrig Davies of the Llanllwnni herd, who stayed true to his word as he was also the judge in the morning show. 1st and 2nd in the heifer class were Churchvale Final Cut Thelma VG85-2yr, and Llan Dolman Dolly 2 respectively. Both had impressed Mr. Davies who again purchased the first place heifer.

The Christmas Cracker offering continued with the new tradition of offering some very special cows of the future. This year saw 6 calves from the Castellhyfryd, Feithy, Tregibby, Gatrog, BB and Lliwe herds all noted herds both locally and UK wide. First up was Catellhyfryd Goldwyn Rosina 3 PI, bred from 8 generations VG/Excellent including her dam who was twice member of the winning Fitzhugh pairs at the Royal Welsh. The fast bidding continued from the sale of the show cattle and she fetched top price of the day of 3400gns and went to A Jones, Brynmaen. Also reaching the 3000gns mark was Lliwe Talented Marq I, who had already found her place on the honors list, winning at The South Wales Holstein Club Calf Show earlier in the year. She went to the fine herd of the Owens's in St. Clears.
