A very good crowd of buyers were in attendance at Beeston Castle Auction from Lancashire to Wiltshire for the dispersal sale of the entire Ketteringham Herd of Pedigree Holsteins, the Property of Foster Harrison Farms Ltd, Wymondham, Norfolk.

 

Trade was very good throughout the sale with plenty of budding for all classes and in particular fresh calved, spring and summer calvers and all youngstock. The herd averaged 9800 kg, followed an all year round calving pattern, housed in cubicles and was generally by good, proven sires.

 

Top price was 2150 gns for the second calf Ketteringham Bolton Ivy (VG85), who freshened in November and was giving 50.4kg; she sold to John Shropshire for his Bridgelane Herd at Cheswardine, Market Drayton. Philip Sinker of Warrington purchased the next highest priced animal; Ketteringham Granite Marly, a milking heifer by Smiddiehill Granite and back in-calf for June to Emmark Mammoth with her second sold for 1850 gns. At just 50 gns less was Ketteringham Bolton Neeltje 2nd, a September calved heifer by Bolton who made 1800 gns to G Green & Son, Northwich.

 

At 1750 gns was the milking heifer Ketteringham Bandolier Norah, a daughter of Moet Bandolier who is due with her second in July to Mammoth; she was one of several summer calvers purchased by EM Shingler & Son of Much Wenlock, Shropshire. Ketternighma Champion Zwartence 4th, an October calved second calver sold for 1720 gns and was one of 24 milkers purchased by FW & RJ Simcock of Hereford and at the same money the August calved heifer Ketteringham Bolton Klaasje was purchased by R Adams of Shrewsbury.

 

In-calf Heifers sold to a top of 1520 gns for Ketteringham Gabe Ann who was due at the end of March to Woodmarsh Topshot and purchased by AP Bloor of Dutton, Warrington with seven other selling between 1400 and 1490 gns. However the trade of the day was for the maiden heifers and strong calves which sold to a top of 1400 gns for a Matson daughter purchased by Stowell Farms who purchased 26 head for their farm at Marlborough.

 

AVERAGES:

 

124 COWS and MILKING HEIFERS £1529.67 (including 60 heifer calves at £603.23); 40 Served Heifers £1185.19; 15 Maiden Heifers £1241.80; 179 HEAD £1428.58.
