A substantial crowd from all parts of the midlands and as far away as Kent gathered at Glebe Farm Dairy in Oxfordshire on Thursday this week for the dispersal of Messrs S & M Collins’ Burrington herd. With plenty of milk on offer from the 9,600kg herd the sale set of at pace with 10 year old cows making 8-900 guineas one after another.
The sale featured 30 daughters of Comestar Outside in the milking herd and one of these Burrington Outside Teal 2nd drew the top bid of 2,020 guineas from Pat Robertson from Falfield in Gloucesterhsire, who purchased 5 cows for his Brinkmarsh herd. Having given 9,132kg as a heifer ‘Teal’ was due to Xacobea in May.
Autumn calving heifers were a steady trade selling to 1,200 guineas and calves at foot sold readily averaging £421 with a peak of 540 guineas for a Bolivia Allen daughter.
The dead stock drew a tremendous crowd, producing a flying trade. A ‘B’ registered International 685 tractor with Quicke loader made £3,300, a JF 1100 trailed forage harvester (12 yr old) made £4,000, Keenan Klassik 140 £7,200 and the Heatime heat detector with 59 collars made £3,800.
