16-05-2011 - Sinderby Dispersal Sale Report

<<< Back to Sale Reports

A large crowd gathered at Village Farm, Sinderby near Thirsk for the dispersal of Philip and James Wadsworth’s Sinderby herd of Holsteins, which included several Swedish red crossbreds. After some items of machinery which produced lively bidding, attention was focussed on the cattle, which attracted buyers from Clwyd, Cumbria, Leicestershire and Monmouthshire as well as dairy farmers from all over Yorkshire.

Most of the herd was autumn calving, but the herd’s excellent fertility meant that most were safely back in calf, allowing buyers to bid with confidence for these genuine cattle. Top price was 2,150gs, paid by W.Denham, who took the second calver Sinderby Grey 764, sired by Winnoch Thunder, back to his Dentgate herd at Barnard Castle. A Red Cross bred second calver by B Jurist attracted considerable attention before the hammer fell at 1,950gs to Alan Morley, Whitby. Two young cows made 1,900gs to Yorkshire dairy farmers with Sinderby Fanny 380, by All Nure Bellwood Larky going to Donald Terry, Ripon, and a twin sister to the top priced cow being taken by R.W.Wood, Stillington.  Among the bigger volume buyers was Wil Armitage who took 11 head for Keythorpe Farms, Tugby, Leicestershire.
Autumn calving heifers made up to 1,500gs with two taken at that price by L.Mellor & Son, Rugeley, Staffs, while calves at foot were a flying trade making up to 880gs for a six month old by Wa-Del Hayden, sold to K.E.Robinson, Carnforth and averaging over £750.
